Module 004: Construction of the Catalog (Base Entities)
4.1 Brands
This section manages the trademarks that group the products. It allows segmentation by market (Merchants) and the configuration of meta tags for SEO.

⚠️ WARNING | Editing a brand is specific to the Merchant selected in the top panel. If you modify a brand while in the Marketplace environment, that change will not automatically affect the Mexico environment if they operate independently. |
4.2 Categories
Categories organize the catalog in a hierarchical tree structure (Parent-Child). The PIM has a single Root Category for the entire e-commerce site, from which all others descend.
Indicators in the Category Table
- Foldable Structure: allows you to expand the categories to see their subcategories (children) and sub-subcategories successively.
- Synchronization State: Visual indicator of the category status on the connected e-commerce platform:
- 🟢 SynchronizedThe category already exists and is active on the target platform (e.g., VTEX).
- 🟡 Pending: changes or new categories that have not yet been sent to the destination platform.
Step by Step: Creating a Category
- Click on + Create Category.
- Complete the form:
- Father Category (Optional)Select which category you want the new creation to depend on. If left blank, it will be created as a direct child of the Root Category.
- Category name: Enter the business name.
- Product display mode (Required)Select how the products in this category will be displayed to the end user:
- Combo
- SKU List
- Radio Selection
- SKU Specification
- Click Save.
4.3 Facets (Attributes)
Facets are the specific properties or attributes of products (e.g., model, capacity, voltage). They can be created globally and linked to specific categories.
Available Attribute Types
Attribute Type | Description and use |
Text | Free field for words, phrases or alphanumeric descriptions. |
Checkbox | True/False binary indicator (e.g., Is it rechargeable? Selected = Yes / Empty = No). |
Combo (Multi-select) | It allows the product to have multiple values selected simultaneously from a list (e.g., Compatible Models: compatible with Model A and Model B at the same time). |
Radio (Single Selection) | It displays several options, but the product can only have one active (e.g., cable lengths: 50m, 200m or 500m). |
Facet Inheritance Rule
💡 PRINCIPLE | Any facet or attribute that is associated with a higher category (Parent) will be automatically inherited by all subcategories (Children) that depend on it in a descending manner. |
Step by Step: Linking Facets to a Category
- Go to the Categories module— locate the desired category.
- Click on Associate Multiple Facets— or enter the category directly.
- In the left panel (Facets to associate):
- Filter or search for the facet by name.
- Group: select the group to which it belongs (e.g., Characteristics, General Data).
- Type: define the attribute type (Text, Combo, Checkbox or Radio).
- Click on the + (Associate) button.
- Confirm the pop-up message— Click OK. The facet will move to the right panel (Associated Facets).
- Click Save— confirm again by clicking Accept to consolidate the changes in the catalog.
ℹ️ NOTE | To associate an attribute to absolutely all PIM categories, perform this same process by selecting the Root Category or using the global Associate to all button. |
4.4 Suppliers (Vendors)
Vendors represent the entities that supply the products. Unlike brands or facets, they do not depend on a Merchant selector in the header, as they manage a unique, global ID within the system.
Step by Step: Registering a Supplier
- Go to the Suppliers section in the side menu.
- Click on the + Create Seller button.
- Enter the required data:
- Seller name: name of the company or supplier.
- Country: Assign the corresponding region (e.g., Mexico, USA) using the drop-down selector. This will group the supplier's origin.
- Click Save— on the main panel, the provider's card will display the abbreviation of its region (MX, US, etc.).
Step by Step: Assigning a Supplier (and Base Entities) to a Product
Once the Brands, Categories and Suppliers are created, they are directly linked in the product details:
- Go to the Products module— select the article to edit.
- Click the Edit button— located in the upper right corner.
- On the Product Information tab— Locate the following fields and assign them using their drop-down menus:
- Mark
- Category
- Supplier (Assigned Salesperson)
- Go to the Specifications tab (Optional)— Fill in the values of the facets associated with the product category.
- Click Save— the system will start the synchronization process (Syncing product) and update the status to Active/Updated.
